The Stargate saga continues on Friday night with the premiere of the new original Syfy series, Stargate Universe. While it does continue the story line from previous Stargate series, dealing with the activation of the 9th Chevron, the new series feels fresh and exciting, and a lot different from the previous shows.

The Stargate phenomena first started on film in 1994 and then on television in 1997 with Stargate SG-1, and in 2002 was picked up by Syfy (formally Sci Fi) who made it their own and the series continued for a total of ten seasons, as well as some post series movies. The show focused on a team of a soldier, an astrophysicist, a civilian scientist, and an alien, who used a Stargate to travel to planets outside our own solar system. Towards the end of the original series, the scientists of Stargate discovered a use for the eighth chevron on the gate – to travel to Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy. Thus became the spin off of Stargate: Atlantis. For years the ninth Chevron was not mentioned, until now. If activated the ninth chevron could take them far beyond that of the Pegasus Galaxy. Stargate Universe was born.

Michael Rosenbaum is probably best known for his role as Lex Luthor on the popular television series Smallville, but he has many credits to his name.  He has appeared in series such as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and in a number of movies such as Sweet November and Sorority Boys, as well as the upcoming Father of Invention, which will be released in the spring.  Rosenbaum has also done voice work for shows such as Adventures of Jackie Chan and Justice League, as well as voicing the lead character for the video game Dark Sector.

Sam Witwer has appeared in both television and movies.  He has also been involved in voice work for video games, such as, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Infamous, and has written and produced an album with his band, the Crashtones (mostly Sam with a few friends).  However, he is probably best known for his work on Battlestar Galactica, playing Crashdown, and on Smallville for playing the part of Davis Bloome/Doomsday.  Witwer will also be appearing in the upcoming movie Gamer.

Lindsey plays the role of Kat Stratford on ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You, which airs with all new episodes on Tuesday nights at 8:00/7:00 Central.  The hit series is based on the popular film of the same name, but is a new take on the similar theme.  Lindsey is best known for her portrayal of Moze on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, and also had a lead role in Aliens in America.  She also recently had lead roles in two independent features. Her character, Kat Stratford is a feminist with a razor sharp tongue, but who also has a softer side.  Lindsey recently took time out to answer questions about the new series, and the character she plays.

Edward James Olmos is a man of many talents, though he confesses he had to learn everything he knows, often saying, “I have become the best I can be.” However, everyone knows that no one can be that great without a lot of natural talent.  Olmos is known for his versatility in many roles, though is probably best known for his work in the movie Blade Runner and on the television show Battlestar Galactica, a remake of the old classic.

Ethan Peck, grandson of Hollywood icon Gregory Peck, plays the role of Patrick Verona in ABC Family's 10 Things I Hate About You.  Patrick is the dark brooding character on the fringe of the social life at Padua High.  He has an intriguing mysteriousness about him, and doesn't say much to anyone.The new series in an adaptation of the hit movie in which the role of Patrick was played by Heath Ledger.  Though Ethan says the series is a new take on a similar theme with this continuation of the franchise.

Warehouse 13 revolves around two Secret Service agents, Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) and Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly), who are transferred to work at Warehouse 13, a top-secret warehouse filled with supernatural and mysterious objects found by the government.  It’s their job to follow leads and find these paranormal artifacts and bring them back to the vault.  Both David Simkins and Jack Kenny, who is also a show runner, serve as executive producers of the series.  Simkins will also serve as a writer on the series.  The four recently sat down for an interview about how the new series came together, and what we can expect.
